A few days ago I noticed that I had lost quite some followers on Facebook.
Usually I don't give a lot about the amount of followers and I barely check them.
In most cases, they're just numbers.
Very less of them actually communicate, interact, engage about the music, except for an emoji now and then.
Anyway, I was curious what had caused the "exodus" ;-)
So I took a look at the statistics and it showed, that they all left the same day or the day after the release of my
new album/EP "Dedications".
Wow, that's pretty strange!
I don't believe in coincidence and since there
seems to be a connection to the album - did I dissapoint some expectations? Seems so!
When I submitted the new music to some places, there were a few surprised responses, people even asking if the
change in genre was "deliberate".
I actually don't know why these songs finally turned out to be something like Folk Rock, I never think about genres when writing music. I actually don't even care about genres, just do what I think fits the idea, the story and sounds "nice" to my ears. If this approach doesn't sound too professional to you, well, so be it!
I felt like the rather emotional lyrics weren't suitable for the noisy stuff as I went from Prog to Rock Ballad to Pop, finally reducing more and more of my typical instrumentation (heavy drums and synthesizers first ;-), trying to find the musical "core" of what the lyrics were about.
But I have to admit that - having played and recorded Prog/Hardrock most of my life, it was a challenge to adjust my usual style of keyboard playing to the songs and more than once did I wish I had learned to play a more "typical" Folk instrument like guitar, violin or flute. Or at least cowbells ;-)
So, as a result of these thoughts, I'm well prepared to lose the rest of my followers once I will release my next album in 2025, which will be some sort of "Gangsta Rap".
Noooo. Won't happen...
...well, you never know ;-)
