Today I want to share the story behind "Evil Rising" with you.
The song is about the rise of the Third Reich in Germany (1933).
You may ask yourself why I even care, being born 8 years afterWW2 ended.
The traces of destruction in my hometown were still visible during my childhood,
the photo shows my grandparents house at the end of the war.
My father was forced into the army when he was only 17.
My grandfather had to hide from the Nazis in a field barn.
He was prosecuted for being an artist (of "Deviant" Art, as they called it) and a member of the socialist party.
He was betrayed to the Nazis by a pastor (!) but was lucky US soldiers invaded the town before they found him.
For my parents Democracy, Freedom and Equality were the fundamental cornerstones of a civilized society and they raised my sisters and me in an antifascist spirit.
They were so deeply convinced that something like the Holocaust could never happen again because now "everybody UNDERSTOOD".
It's sad to say but they were wrong. Right-wing extremist ideologies did not miraculously vanish and during the following years incidents relating to it were downplayed by many as the shenanigans of a minority. This lack of awareness led to a right-wing extremist party entering German Bundestag in 2017.
During the Pandemia it became obvious that the mechanism of hate speech, fake information, anti-Semitism and social division still workes.
Be aware!Never Again!
Lyrics:
"Evil Rising"
„Come, come my way,” said the devil to the blind
„Come, come my way and I’ll show you the light”
„Come, oh come my way,” said the devil to the dead
„Come, come, come my way and I’ll bring you back to life
On the first day of the journey they drank his words like wine
And on the second day they wanted nothing more than to obey
On the third day there was darkness and their path began to fade
And on the fourth day, at arrival, they forgot what they had been
On the fifth day they were stumbling through a haze of deadly gas
And on the sixth day no resistance when he handed them his guns
And on the seventh day his laughter roared across the burning land
„Come, come my way,” said the devil to the blind
„Come, come my way and I’ll show you the light”
„Come, oh come my way,” said the devil to the dead
„Come, come, come my way and I’ll bring you back to life
